At Takana, we’ve always believed that growing trees is about more than simply putting plants in the ground. It’s about creating something that will be enjoyed, cared for and valued for generations to come.

So, when the opportunity came to support Leigh School’s fundraising efforts with trees for their grounds, it was something we were very happy to be part of. The work the school is doing to connect tamariki with nature, sustainability and their local environment is something we really admire.

It’s especially rewarding to know that some of the trees have already found a home in a new circular garden, with much more planned for the school grounds. Supporting projects like these is a small way for us at Takana to contribute to the community we’re part of — and to help young people grow a genuine connection with the environment around them.

We were incredibly touched to receive this letter from Principal Kerrin Jamieson, and I wanted to share her words, along with the wonderful poster they created, as a reflection of what can happen when a community comes together and grows something meaningful. 


Dear Don,

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your ongoing support of Leigh School. The donation of trees you made towards our dinner fundraiser was incredibly generous. As Principal, guiding our tamariki on their Enviroschool journey is a cause extremely close to my heart. Our ambition is to become an exemplary Enviroschool within the Auckland region and achieve Green Gold status in the near future - a goal that drives everything we do here.

We currently have some incredible projects taking shape across the school grounds:

• Expanding Green Spaces & Orchards: We are undertaking extensive tree planting to establish local food sustainability through school orchards. We have also planted some of your trees in a circular garden which we hope to continue developing into something very special. 

• Eco Outdoor Classroom: We are in the planning stages of a fully off-grid, solar-powered outdoor classroom that will allow all-weather, hands-on environmental learning.

Ambitions like these simply cannot move from vision to reality without the generous backing of local partners who share our values. Your support through Takana Nursery directly empowers our students to become active guardians of their environment.
