Erect spreading forest verge tree. Fast growth to 4m @ 10 years, then up to 30m. Deep green lanceolate leaves though notably softer than the very similar-looking foliage of Manuka. Five to six-petalled small white, sometimes pinkish flowers appearing in clusters of up to 30. Flaky bark. Endemic all over the country from North to South. Long-lived. Excellent hot-burning firewood.
